Customer Reviews

Customer Review: “This is my 1st French Press and I’ve been using it for about 3 months now. I really like it and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a plastic-free, quality French Press. The coffee is remarkably smooth and delicious, and I really like the fact that I’m no longer brewing my coffee through plastic. The Cafe Du Chateau French Press is very well made and seems sturdy enough to last a long time, with a thick glass carafe, good quality stainless steel, and no sharp edges, as mentioned in other reviews (I guess they fixed that problem, which shows that the manufacturer is paying attention). Taking it apart for cleaning is easy peasy, with the exception of unscrewing the cross plate from the stem. That can be a little stubborn to loosen at times. Otherwise it’s very easy to break down and clean. To easily remove the used grounds from the carafe without worrying about clogging my drain or making a mess, I use the mesh filter basket from my retired 5-cup Mr. Coffee, with a paper filter inside of that. I add a little water to the used grounds, swirl it around a little, and pour the sludge into the filter basket. I let it drain for a while and then remove the paper filter full of grounds from the basket and drop it into the garbage. Again, easy peasy.”

Customer Review: “Nice and simple press, its easy to clean and it’s filters hold down the grounds well, the plunger is form fitting not allowing grains past it. It also looks nice.”

Customer Reviews

Customer Review: “The media could not be loaded. My husband and I absolutely love this Secura French Press. The fifty ounce size is perfect for us and easily makes five full cups of coffee or six if you pour them a little lighter. It is great for slow mornings together or when we want more than just a single cup.The stainless steel build feels very high quality and it is extremely well insulated. Our coffee stays hot for about two hours, which is a huge plus. The filter is excellent and so far we have had no issues with grounds slipping through, which has been a problem with other French presses we have owned. The only thing to be aware of is pressure. If you fill it too high and do not turn the arrow to release the pressure before pressing, the coffee and grounds can pop out. As long as you release the pressure properly, it works perfectly and is not an issue at all.Overall we are very happy with this purchase and use it regularly. It looks great, works beautifully, and makes delicious coffee. We would absolutely buy it again and recommend it to anyone looking for a high quality insulated French press.”

Customer Review: “I have only used French presses for about 12 years and I have had a few in that time. I even had an insulated one that I’ve used for a few years.I got this one yesterday to replace that one as it broke. This is very nice looking. Feels quality. I had my first cup of coffee and it was as expected…hot and delicious. I had my second cup an hour later and steam rose as I poured. The coffee was still a great temperature! This was not the case with my previous insulated french press.I am so thankful I got this one. I know. It’s only my first use, but there’s not much that can happen with a french press. If it does, I’ll amend this review.”

Customer Reviews

Customer Review: “I bought this because I was going on a trip and like to have my coffee made in a press pot. My brother liked it so much I left it with him. As soon as I got home I bought another one. Love that my coffee tastes great, it is easy and keeps my coffee hot.”

Customer Review: “I was drinking instant coffee for the last several months. I got tired of the noise that my coffee maker made at the end of the cycle. Too loud first thing in the morning. Plus, it was messy. This French press is so nice and clean compared to that machine. So sleek and beautiful. Also, it was made of plastic. The last thing you should do to plastic that you’re exposing your food or drinks to, is to heat it up. This releases the toxins in the plastics. So, I was exposing myself to a lot of plastic every time I used it. When I was shopping for a French press, I wanted a small one. At first, I wanted a glass one due to their looks. But the glass ones that were small all seemed to have plastic incorporated into the lids. So switched to stainless steel and I’m glad I did.I wish I had boughten one years ago. But I love that I have one now.”

Customer Reviews

Customer Review: “2 years of use review: I originally bought this French Press for making coffee while camping. It did a great job of that, easily making about a liter of coffee at a time – enough for me and my husband to both have about 2 big mugs, while keeping the coffee hot. But where I’ve really come to appreciate it is over the last few months, when I started using it daily at home almost every day. It works so well and is so easy! I use an electric kettle to boil water while I rinse out the metal filter from yesterday’s coffee grounds — takes very little time to clean and I can rinse the old grounds directly into my garbage disposal. No need to buy new filters or expensive pods. It only takes another minute or two to pour in the boiling water over fresh grounds, stir, then press. The coffee stays hot on our kitchen counter for hours, so I can make coffee when I get up and it’s still available when my husband gets up a bit later. I’ve probably owned every type of coffee maker over the years and this is simple and makes very good coffee — and holds up to daily use, too!”

Customer Review: “This is a really good unit. Bigger than any I’ve had and perfect for 2-3 people ( I drink coffee and want 1-2 coffees myself. So great if you want more coffee on hand.Just takes a min to brew up fresh pressed coffee.Nice thick stainless steel double wall actually does keep code hot a little while.Sturdy, and comfortable to use.Pours nice.Won’t break easy like glass.I use in my shop now every day.”

Customer Reviews

Customer Review: “I purchased this stainless press for an 18 day trip to the Philippines. Since everyone has those electric water kettles, I was able to easily have fresh delicious coffee everyday with this press. Even the last three days at Okada Manila I was able to make fresh coffee since they also had an electric kettle in the room, although a smaller hotel sized one than the standard residential size i had at my relative’s house.I brought enough coarse French press ground French roast coffee for 18 days in a couple ziplock bags and it thankfully made it through security at SFO along with the press in my carry-on. TSA simply swabbed the outside of the ziplock with some sort of test solution. They didn’t open the ziplocks or stir the coffee grounds. I heard that folks who put coffee in check-in luggage usually find it all over their luggage when unpacking, so I opted for carry-on transport, with the worst option being TSA making me throw it away at the checkpoint. Better than my clothes in luggage smelling like coffee. The press didn’t give a weird taste to the coffee as other presses were complained about in Amazon reviews.I skipped warming the press up first, per the instructions, since I didn’t want to waste relative’s filtered water they pay for in the Philippines. I just added my 6-8 tablespoons of grounds to the press and filled to the fill mark inside with boiling water, stirred the grounds, and started my iPhone timer for 4 minutes with Siri. Coffee was great every time and relatives got to enjoy it, as well. I started putting in only 6 tablespoons because 8 was honestly just too strong. But, 8 tablespoons is certainly a great tasting cup of coffee, as well. The mesh press fit the inside diameter just fine and no grounds were ever present in the poured coffee. The press’ handle did not break off like some similar designed presses on Amazon other reviewer’s complained about, and the press plunger action was smooth and consistent every time. The construction of the press is solid and it didn’t dent at all during my trip. I’m not sure how long it keeps coffee hot as I didn’t want the coffee to over-steep, so I poured the remaining coffee out into a large measuring cup I brought after filling my own carrafe, so it wasn’t too bitter. The press is easy to clean. I only wish I also brought a long spoon to get the grounds out of the bottom of the press as I only had a small tea stirring spoon to work with when I got to the hotel at the end of my trip. My hand was just small enough to fit inside the press to get to the bottom to scrape out the grounds. My large measuring cup, the press, the ground coffee, and a tablespoon measuring spoon was a great kit to bring. The included glass travel jar fits 8 tablespoons of grounds. I brought it filled with grounds but didn’t need to use it as I didn’t go on any side trips and had access to my ziplock full of coffee grounds the whole trip. But, it’s a nice travel jar, although not airtight, since the coffee smell made it out easily.I did test my press several times before packing for my trip to ensure it worked well. Overall, this is a great press, especially for someone who’s trying a French press for the first time, and it definitely is a great travel press model.”

Customer Review: “Definitely a well-built and attractive unit. We are very pleased with the ease of use and the spout which does not leak or splatter when pouring coffee (unlike some other brands we have used). Aesthetics and construction – 5+ stars! I have yet to experience the coating flaking off as others have stated, but I don’t put mine in the dishwasher and use a soft cloth/brush to hand wash it.The *only* disappointment is that the coffee does not stay nearly as hot if you let it stay in the coffee maker (which you really shouldn’t do anyway, see my comment later about that). I always pour extremely hot water into the unit, let it stand for a minute to “preheat” the container, pour it out and then add the coarse ground coffee and add new hot water from our tea kettle. Still, the coffee drops in temperature faster than we would have expected for a vacuum insulated unit.THIS IS NOT MEANT TO BE A THERMOS CONTAINEROthers have stated that the coffee becomes bitter when drinking the 2nd cup, but this is true with all French presses if you leave the coffee grinds in the press with the coffee after it brews. Many “coffee purists” suggest that you let the hot water “brew” in the press for the appropriate amount of time (varies depending on coffee, grind size, and your taste), and then immediately pour the entire contents into a preheated thermos or container to separate the brewed coffee from the grinds. This in itself solves the dropping temperature issue as I pour it into a high quality, vacuum sealed thermos which keeps the coffee hot longer. I use a Zojirushi stainless bottle which I bought on Amazon and works well. The coffee stays hot for hours though my work morning.Cleaning is typical for a French press…you just have to thoroughly wash the filter with running water until all of the grinds come loose. You may need to use a soft bristle brush or toothbrush to do a thorough cleaning. Also watch out for some of the sharp edges on the attachment while you operate the press and/or clean it. I’ve cut my finger already!METAL VS GLASS DEBATEThe only other comment I have to make is that metal coffee presses and thermoses can affect the flavor of coffee. In fact, I prefer my coffee made in glass and poured into glass or ceramic cups but the difference is so negligible that only a few connoisseurs will tell the difference.”

Customer Review: “It’s sort of hard to explain what makes the Chambord the de-facto modern french press. It makes good coffee, but then again, of course it does: It’s a glass container you put ground coffee and water into. We figured out these things 200 years ago, it’s not rocket science. What makes the Chambord special is everything involved in the process of using it. Parts are good quality; they’re durable and feel good to handle. If anything does break, finding replacements is easy and not very expensive. The assembly is extremely modular too, meaning it’s easy to clean thoroughly and you probably won’t have to worry about it gunking up over years of use. It lacks the amenities some other brewers will try to sell you on, such as advanced filtering systems or quick cleaning methods, but in my opinion these gimicks rank from unnecessary to actively detrimental. The Chambord is the french press the same way we’ve been doing it for the last 200 years, and it works just fine. There’s also something to be said for the way it looks. It might sound silly, but this is something that’s presumably going to be out on your kitchen counter every day, so it should matter if you like looking at it, and I think the design of the Chambord is the sort of classy that doesn’t age. When I make coffee in the mornings, I place it on my counter, and the way the sun hits the glass makes my coffee look so good, I’m almost certain contributes to it tasting better once it’s in my cup. Again, it sounds silly, but I think that alone is enough of a reason to spend the tiny bit more than it costs compared to other brewers. Can’t go wrong with a french press. Can’t go wrong with the Chambord. It just works.”

Customer Review: “I’d heard that a french press makes the best tasting coffee but put off buying one for years. To be honest if I had some peer pressure to influence me I’d probably not have resisted for so long. I only know one person who uses a coffee press and they swear by it.The reason I finally bought this was that my last two drip coffeemakers broke in month thirteen, right after the warranty ended. Small plastic parts broke and I took the plunge to try this french press which is mostly glass and metal, figuring the simpler construction might ensure it would last longer (and it’s less expensive too). One thing I like about the Chambord is the glass beaker is a separate piece. This is unlike Bodum’s Brazil model which has the plastic fused onto the glass. I know replacement glass pieces are sold separately in case mine breaks.I liked the look of the Chambord which is sleek and has a shiny silver metal and black plastic for the holder and cap. I looked at the Bodum Chambord side by side with other coffee presses (like the Bodum Brazil) in a store and could see that this one looks more sophisticated and classy.I also like the 32 ounce capacity of the Chambord.Easy to UseThe coffee press is so easy to use. I boil the water then wait two minutes, as the manufacturer says not to use boiling water. I put the coffee grounds in it then fill it with 32 ounces of water. I stir it with a wooden chopstick then place the lid on and wait four minutes. Then it is pressed very gently and slowly. The coffee is ready to serve. My one complaint about the glass container is there are no marked lines for various measurements. If you want to make coffee in a certain number of ounces, such as to make an 8 ounce cup, you will have to heat the water and measure it in a heat-safe measuring cup then pour it in.I note the manufacturer has legal warnings in two languages which fill over two inches of space on it so it is clear that Bodum wasn’t leaving markings off to have a clean design look.Since this uses no electricity and is small I am taking it with me when camping. I am thrilled to be able to have great tasting coffee while camping or staying in cabins without electricity but with access to open fire or portable camping stoves which can be used to boil the water.Best Tasting CoffeeI have two favorite coffees which I’ve been drinking for over two years using a drip coffeemaker. I was shocked at the superior aste of the coffee made with the same pre-ground beans from this coffee press. There was no bitterness! I’d thought the bitterness was supposed to be there and had accepted it. (This idea is now funny to me. I also note when reading reviews of my former coffeemaker – made by Mr. Coffee – some customers said it produced a bitter brew. I now know that to be true. )I have never tasted home-brewed coffee that tasted this good.32 OuncesBodum says this makes 8 cups of coffee. In America 6 ounces is the standard so that’s a bit confusing to this American coffee drinker. However many people now drink 8, 12, 16 or more ounces in one “cup” of coffee. What you need to know is the Bodum Chambord makes 32 ounces of coffee.CleaningI find this easy to clean and have no complaints. With anything you use there is usualy some cleaning, even a drip coffeemaker has parts to clean.Making Coffee in VolumeMy Mr. Coffee drip coffee maker took nearly 15 minutes to make a 12 cup pot so I have no complaints on the time it takes to make coffee in a coffee press. To me flavor is more important anyway; I’d rather have a coffeemaker for daily use that produces superior coffee every day and have a bit of inconvenience when company is here. If I have to, when company is visiting, I will use an insulated coffee pot if I need more than 32 ounces of one kind of coffee. It will actually work out fine as some of my family usually wants decaf while others want caffinated coffee, so I’ve always had to brew two pots and use an insulated carafe when I brewed with a drip coffeemaker anyway. The CostThis cost me less than half what a drip coffeemaker costs and much less than those one-cup coffee makers. I’m happy with the low cost. As I said earlier if the glass beaker breaks I can buy a replacement for a low price. In ConclusionThis makes fantastic tasting coffee. It may be a different process than you have done before but it is easy. This is an inexpensive item with a simple process with little room for mechanical failure. Don’t hesitate like I did!”

Complete Buying Guide for Stainless Steel French Press Coffee Maker

Essential Factors We Consider

When choosing a stainless steel French press coffee maker, durability and heat retention are top priorities. Stainless steel bodies not only resist breakage but also keep coffee warm for longer. Look for multi-layer filtration systems to ensure your coffee is smooth and free of sediment. Capacity matters too — some prefer compact sizes for solo brewing, while others want larger presses for sharing. Ease of cleaning is essential, so dishwasher-safe parts or simple disassembly can be big pluses. Also, consider the design ergonomics, like comfortable handles and sturdy lids.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Is stainless steel better than glass for a French press?

A: Stainless steel is more durable and offers better heat retention compared to glass. It’s less prone to breaking, which makes it ideal for travel or active kitchens. However, some people prefer glass for its visual appeal and believe it preserves the natural coffee flavor better.

Q: How do I clean a stainless steel French press?

A: Most stainless steel French presses can be cleaned by disassembling the plunger and rinsing all parts with warm water and mild soap. Some models have dishwasher-safe filters and parts. Regular cleaning prevents residue buildup and keeps your coffee tasting fresh.

Q: Can I use a French press to brew tea?

A: Yes, stainless steel French presses work well for brewing loose-leaf tea. The mesh filter helps separate leaves from the liquid, and the insulated body keeps tea warm longer. Just be sure to clean thoroughly to avoid flavor cross-contamination.

Q: What grind size should I use with a French press?

A: A coarse grind is ideal for French press brewing. It allows the water to extract the coffee flavors without letting grounds pass through the filter. Using a burr grinder will help you achieve the consistent grind size needed; see our best coffee grinder for French press article for recommendations.

Q: Does a double-wall insulated French press keep coffee hot for hours?

A: Yes, double-wall insulated stainless steel French presses are designed to keep coffee hot for several hours, usually between 1 to 4 hours depending on the model. However, coffee flavor may change if it sits too long, so it’s best to enjoy it fresh.

Choosing the right stainless steel French press coffee maker can transform your daily coffee ritual, offering rich flavor and lasting warmth.
