The coffee is remarkably smooth and delicious, and I really like the fact that I’m no longer brewing my coffee through plastic. The Cafe Du Chateau French Press is very well made and seems sturdy enough to last a long time, with a thick glass carafe, good quality stainless steel, and no sharp edges, as mentioned in other reviews (I guess they fixed that problem, which shows that the manufacturer is paying attention). Taking it apart for cleaning is easy peasy, with the exception of unscrewing the cross plate from the stem. That can be a little stubborn to loosen at times. Otherwise it’s very easy to break down and clean.To easily remove the used grounds from the carafe without worrying about clogging my drain or making a mess, I use the mesh filter basket from my retired 5-cup Mr. Coffee, with a paper filter inside of that. I add a little water to the used grounds, swirl it around a little, and pour the sludge into the filter basket. I let it drain for a while and then remove the paper filter full of grounds from the basket and drop it into the garbage. Again, easy peasy.”

It’s very sturdy and retains heat well, and all parts function perfectly for a very rich, delicious cup of coffee. It looks nice too, just exactly as pictured, and the wooden stirring spoon is a nice little bonus. I add a little bit of hot water first and then pour it out, just to start the interior out hot (not sure how important that step is, but it’s on the instruction page), add some coarsely ground coffee, a bit of hot water (around 195-200 F) to wet and bloom the ground coffee for about 30 seconds, then add the rest of the water and stir, put the lid on, and then after about 4 minutes I plunge down. Coffee is very rich using this method, and I find that this French Press retains the flavor and using this method, I get a smooth flavor too. I don’t really use the thermometer, as my electric water kettle already has a digital one, but it is a nice feature that could come in handy for those who prefer it. I bought this particular French Press based on quality and high reviews, and I’m really pleased with it. It’s very well worth the price.”

I tend to put the coffee into the French press, put water over it and stick it in the microwave for 3 minutes, then let it steep. I hate to admit that I spent hours when I should have been working looking through the Amazon selection of French presses, reading reviews, etc. I settled on this one because it is about twice as large, is made of double-walled borosilicate glass (double layer acts as insulation), has a eco-friendly bamboo lid and has a fairly sturdy borosilocate handle. Handles that break off seemed to be a rather common complaint among reviewers. It also has a removable rubber base that the press slides into, I guess to keep the heat off your surfaces. Anyway, I am quite pleased with my new French press. I will be keeping my old one to use when I have company and some want decaf and some want the real deal.”
